Treatment and Prevention

I tested positive, what's next?

Treatment: We are here with you every step of the way. We will arrange your care appointment with one of our medical partners to ensure you receive what you need to stay healthy. If needed, we will help make arrangements to get you to the appointment, and we will accompany you at the appointment for support, if you want us to.

We will remain a phone call away to support you along your journey to becoming and staying undetectable.

And don’t worry, your confidentiality will be maintained at every step in the process.

I tested negative, what's next?

Step it Up! PreP it Up!

Prevention – Great! Now, together,we’II talk about how to keep you negative. We will educate you on PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) and come up with an action plan that works best for you. Then, we will make arrangements to get you an appointment with one of our partner medical providers to get you started.

Alternative prevention will be discussed, also.

Education and Advocacy

HARM REDUCTION

HHOME (HIV Harm Reduction Outreach for Melanated Empowerment)

The Black community faces a disproportionate burden of HIV positivity due to factors including racism, homophobia, poverty, misogyny, unequal access to quality healthcare, unemployment, stigma, and numerous other systemic injustices. These circumstances have cultivated a community where individuals developed a need to escape to the proverbial “Oz” and have therefore, turned to sex, drugs, and alcohol as coping mechanisms, tragically exacerbating the prevalence of HIV within these social circles.

In response to the urgent crisis and cry for help, HHOME takes action as the mitigating essential solution, offering a secure haven for affected individuals to find support and access the necessary resources to engage in high-risk behaviors safely. Our goal is to empower them to regain control over their sexual health and autonomy.

D.A.R.E

D.A.R.E Advocacy Boot Camp

D.A.R.E stands as a beacon of hope, offering a transformative ninety-day journey for those living with HIV/AIDS to confront their deepest fears head-on. This intensive retreat becomes a crucible where individuals harness intricate methods, delving into their souls to unearth the origins of their anxieties. Through profound introspection, they emerge equipped with the tools to confront and conquer these fears, liberating themselves from the shackles of stigma and reclaiming their rightful autonomy.

What is Stigma? A mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.

The impact of stigma on individuals with HIV/AIDS can be nothing short of traumatic. Its insidious presence manifests in myriad forms, from self-doubt to profound feelings of worthlessness, plunging individuals into the depths of severe depression and, tragically, sometimes even driving them to contemplate suicide. Yet, it is the internalized stigma that inflicts the most profound wounds, echoing relentlessly within one’s psyche. This internal dialogue becomes the defining narrative of their existence, shaping their sense of self and influencing every aspect of their daily lives. It is, unequivocally, the most pivotal conversation a person living with HIV/AIDS engages in, as it holds the power to dictate their health outcomes and overall well-being.

Motivational Speaking by TheHlVLady

Stigma is the main barrier and social determinant to the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Black/African American communities. This is due to lack of education surrounding the current medical advancements for the disease. As a result, HIV/AIDS is disproportionately affecting these communities and resulting in adverse impacts on the health outcomes of the people within them.

TheHlVLady is an HIV+ – Undetectable Black/African American women that wears her crown proudly and shares her story publicly, both in person and on social media platforms, to increase the knowledge gap within the community and encourage testing, treatment and prevention.
